Canada's Corporate Heartbeat Weakens
Canada's head office sector is facing a decline, with a loss of 83 head offices from 2018 to 2022, and an overall drop of 140 since 2012. This trend is comes with a decrease in head office employment by almost 8% over the same period. Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and B.C. are the primary hosts of these head offices, with the Greater Toronto Area leading in both the number of head offices and employment. B.C., despite its population size, significantly lags behind Alberta in head office employment, mostly because of higher corporate and personal income tax rates, and other business challenges. This ongoing decline indicates structural economic issues within Canada.

O'Toole on Foreign Election Interference
Former Conservative leader Erin O'Toole spoke about the impact of foreign interference on the fairness of elections to a federal inquiry, suggesting it may have cost him leadership. He criticized Canada's national approach to foreign interference instead of addressing issues on a riding-by-riding basis, which, in his view, could have altered the election outcome in specific regions. O'Toole's testimony revealed concerns about Chinese interference intended to dissuade votes for the Conservative Party, emphasizing the importance of transparency and targeted warnings to combat misinformation and protect the integrity of elections.
