Trump Threatens to Block Gordie Howe Bridge
The $6.4-billion Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor and Detroit is finished, tested, and ready to open - but Trump says he won't allow it.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump said the U.S. should "perhaps" own half the bridge and that it won't open "until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given." He complained the bridge was built "with virtually no U.S. content" - something Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says is factually wrong, since U.S. steel was used on the Michigan side.
Canada funded the entire project. The bridge is jointly owned by Canada and the state of Michigan. Trump himself endorsed it in 2017, issuing a joint statement with Trudeau calling it a "vital economic link." Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is pushing back, calling the bridge critical to the state's economy. Whether Trump can actually block the opening is unclear - the legal authority is murky - but the threat adds one more layer of uncertainty to an already strained border relationship.

All Three Major Canadian Airlines Suspend Cuba Flights
Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat have all suspended service to Cuba after Havana's main airport warned it will run out of jet fuel.
Air Canada is sending empty planes to pick up roughly 3,000 Canadians still on the island. WestJet and Sunwing are doing the same, with all aircraft carrying enough fuel to make the return trip without relying on local supply. The airlines say they hope to restart Cuba service by late April or May, pending review.
The fuel shortage traces back to the U.S. blocking Venezuelan oil exports to Cuba. Venezuela has been Cuba's main fuel supplier for years, but no crude or refined products have reached the island since mid-December. Havana's airport issued an official NOTAM warning that Jet A1 fuel won't be available until at least March 11. Canada issued a travel advisory for Cuba last week, citing the fuel situation.
