Trump Threatens to Ground All Canadian-Made Aircraft
The trade war just got another runway. Trump announced Thursday he'll "decertify" all Canadian-made aircraft and slap a 50% tariff on planes sold into the U.S. - unless Canada immediately certifies Gulfstream's business jets. Yes, he's essentially holding Bombardier hostage over a certification dispute between two competing private jet makers.
The move specifically targets Bombardier's Global Express line, but the language covers "all aircraft made in Canada" - which also means De Havilland and Airbus's Canadian operations could take a hit. Bombardier responded by noting its planes are fully FAA-certified and "renowned around the world." (Polite Canadian understatement at its finest.)
This isn't Trump's first run at Bombardier - he hit the C Series with near 300% tariffs during his first term, which ended with Bombardier selling the whole program to Airbus. Will Canada blink this time, or is another signature Canadian brand about to get squeezed out?

'Minnetoba'? Minnesota Wants In
Former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura has an idea for his state's ongoing fights with the Trump administration: just join Canada. He's not alone. A Stillwater resident is already selling "Minnetoba" bumper stickers, and the joke is landing because it's only half a joke.
Minnesota shares more DNA with Manitoba than it does with, say, Texas - the accent, the winters, the aggressive niceness, the inexplicable love of hotdish. For those of us already outside Canada, watching Americans voluntarily ask to join the club hits different. We left. They want in. There's probably a support group for this.
The odds of it actually happening sit somewhere between "snowball's chance" and "never," but as a barometer of how weird things have gotten south of the border, it's hard to beat.
